Marriage Mentors
What a mentor couple is:
· A couple that is “one step ahead of those they mentor”.
· A couple that does not have a perfect marriage but realizes how much
listening to others and gaining advice and encouragement can mean
any relationship.
· A couple that can be objective about what another couple is experiencing
in life by passing on knowledge and skills.
· A couple married 5 years or more & who are members of Mobberly to
mentor a married couple.
· A couple married 2 years or more & who are members of Mobberly to
mentor an engaged couple or a newly married couple.
· A couple that will agree to give a little time each week (this is not a labor
intensive ministry) to encourage a couple.
· A mentor is committed to see a couple establish a solid marriage.
· A couple that realizes they want to see their own marriage enriched as
they reach out to encourage others.
Why do we need Marriage Mentors?
Marriage mentors are not people with all of the answers. They are people who have had life experience and with that life experience have gained wisdom in what works and what doesn't work in a healthy marriage. Young engaged or newly-wed couples can learn from the experience and learn how to enrich their own marriages through the education and encouragement they can gain from a marriage mentor.
How Does it Benefit My Marriage?
The term “marriage mentor” may be intimidating because it sounds like a time consuming and overwhelming commitment. Becoming a marriage mentor is neither time intrusive nor overwhelming. In order to become a marriage mentor, couples must complete an “Enrich” program themselves. Not only will you be able to bless another couple with your experience, but as a mentor your relationship with each other will be enriched and strengthened. The prepare/enrich program is very flexible and free of charge for couples who become a certified marriage mentors.
If you have any questions, would like to be mentored, or would like to be trained to mentor a couple, contact Lynnette at 903-663-7355 or email the Mentoring coordinator Charles Barham at CharlesB@mobberly.net
