Mobberly to Break Ground on New Preschool Building

Posted: September 7, 2017

Mobberly Baptist Church will break ground on a new preschool building at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 on the Longview campus located at 625 E. Loop 281. Mobberly members voted on Wednesday evening to move forward with the construction of the new facility.

With close to 100 Mobberly babies born in 2015 and 2016, and 17 guests in the preschool ministry each month, Mobberly is quickly growing out of their current space. The expanded and enhanced facilities will allow Mobberly to engage families with more space, provide increased safety and expand the abilities of the special needs ministry.

"Mobberly is reaching families and loves children," Dr. Glynn Stone, Mobberly's senior pastor, said. "When God blesses the home, the blessings in the church are not far behind."

The new 38,100 square foot building will replace the current portable building, which housed three kindergarten classes, located behind The Crossing building on the 150-acre campus. The second level will have 19,817 square feet of space for preschool children, doubling the current space used by the preschool ministry at Mobberly. The facility for three and four year olds and kindergarten aged children, will have 12 classrooms, a suite for Mobberly's Leaps and Bounds special needs ministry, two large multipurpose spaces and a gathering area with an indoor playground.

"We recognize that the first five years of a child's life are the most important years for building foundations of love, trust and security," Analisa Hood, Mobberly's minister to children, said. "With that in mind, we look forward with great excitement to this additional space that will offer a safe and caring environment for preschoolers to gather and learn how much God loves them and how very special they are."

The 18,283 square foot ground floor of the facility will be left undeveloped. The function has not been defined for this area, but it could serve as additional children and adult classrooms, or office space.

Mobberly is working with Thacker Davis Architects and Transet Co. on the project. Early plans call for the building to be opened by the fall of 2018.

The preschool building is one of four components of Mobberly's Engage10K capital campaign.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 12:15 p.m., and speakers will include: Dr. Glynn Stone, Senior Pastor, and Jimmy Skeen, Mobberly's Planning and Building Committee Chairman and Engage10K Capital Campaign Committee Chairman.
